The National Railway Museum has secured £15 million in government funding for the development of its new Central Hall. The project forms part of the wider York Central development, which is set to include at least 2,500 homes and create around 6,000 jobs.

Mayor of York and North Yorkshire David Skaith, said:

“It’s fabulous to see the Deputy Prime Minister coming to the National Railway Museum to announce that the £15million investment is secure.

We’ve argued the case for this funding with Government since it announced a review last year. This decision shows the faith the Government has in York and North Yorkshire to deliver growth.

The NRM can now go on to achieve its ambition to become the world’s railway museum, as well as being an integral part of the York Central project, which in-turn will bring jobs, homes and investment to York and North Yorkshire.”
