Extra Skills Bootcamps for York and North Yorkshire

New Skills Bootcamps are available for learners in York and North Yorkshire.

York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority has added 10 more courses to the programme which offers key skills employers in the region are looking for. The new courses cover leadership and management, construction and net-zero and green technologies.

The programme now has 12 skills providers delivering 44 courses in total, which also include digital and marketing, HGV driving and skills within the creative industries.

Skills Bootcamps are a government initiative, providing an opportunity for adults to train in a new industry or progress in learners’ current careers. The Combined Authority secured funding to commission courses in York and North Yorkshire.

Having launched the programme in June, the Combined Authority expects more than 900 people will benefit from this year’s Skills Bootcamps, which run until March 2026.

David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, said:

“With £30 million in funding, we are investing more in our region’s adult skills than ever before, and our new Skills Bootcamps are a vital part of that investment.

“It’s a gamechanger for the 900 learners we will support and for the businesses that have, for too long, struggled to find the people and skills they need.

“Now we’re boosting our Skills Bootcamps with even more courses, building the skilled workforce York and North Yorkshire needs to thrive.”

Skills Bootcamps are funded, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and an offer of an interview with an employer upon completion. Learning can take place at a college, another training provider or online.

Learners need to be 19 or over to do a Skills Bootcamp.  If they are out of work, learners are guaranteed a job interview with an employer after completing a Skills Bootcamp. Learners can also get a new job or apprenticeship, progress in their current job or find new business opportunities if they’re self-employed.
