York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority are urging residents and businesses to use a new national service, which launched this week, to report fraud or cybercrime.
Report Fraud provides a clear and simple way for victims to report incidents direct to the police.
It also offers guidance on what should be reported, explains how information is used, and signposts victims to further support.
Since 4 December 2025, anyone searching for how to report cybercrime or fraud, or attempting to access the former ‘Action Fraud’ in England, Wales and Northern Ireland has been automatically redirected to Report Fraud, helping to ensure a smooth transition for the public.
Residents are being encouraged to report all incidents of fraud and cybercrime no matter how small. Every report helps build a clearer picture of the threats affecting local communities and enables quicker action to protect others.
The public launch of Report Fraud marks an important step in strengthening the national response to cybercrime and fraud, making it easier for victims to get support and helping authorities respond more effectively. In October last year, Deputy Mayor Jo Coles chaired an Online Public Meeting on the subject of Cybercrime, alongside North Yorkshire Police.
Jo Coles, Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime said:
“Fraud is the UK’s most common crime, affecting people of all ages right across our region. Last year there were more than 3,200 reports of fraud across our region, costing local residents and businesses over £16million. These crimes devastate lives. It can happen to anyone and no one should blame themselves if they become a victim.
At my recent public meeting the North Yorkshire Economic Crime Unit set out how they investigate fraud and cyber crime and the support available to victims. The new Report Fraud system will make reporting these crimes easier and help North Yorkshire Police better understand where and how crimes are taking place. But there is a lot more to do.
David Skaith, the Mayor and I are urging people across our region to use the new Report Fraud system and to seek support via our victim services so we can continue the work to keep people safe in our region”.
