Earlier this year key partners from across York and North Yorkshire published their joint strategy to combat Serious Violence.
We are now developing our strategy and want to hear the public’s views and experience on the impact Serious Violence has on communities and how to address these issues.

Under the Serious Violence Duty introduced in January 2023, the York and North Yorkshire Office for Policing, Fire, Crime and Commissioning (OPFCC), part of the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, has a duty to convene partners including North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Probation services, North Yorkshire Council, City of York Council and the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board to develop a strategy around Serious Violence.
To support the development of this strategy, the Office for Policing, Fire, Crime and Commissioning, and partners, welcome views from members of the public on the impact Serious Violence has on communities and how to address this in their local area.

The Office for Policing, Fire, Crime and Commissioning (OPFCC) is part of the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, which is headed by the elected Mayor of York and North Yorkshire David Skaith.
Jo Coles is the Deputy mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime and was appointed by Mayor David Skaith in June 2024.
Jo works closely with the Mayor and other partners to ensure that communities, businesses and visitors to York and North Yorkshire are safe and feel safe.
