Grow Yorkshire - Shared Prosperity Fund (projects)
Grow Yorkshire is an initiative led by York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority (YNYCA), which recognises food and farming as vital sectors within our region.
Together with our partners, we are investing in the growth and development of food and farming, with a strategic remit across environment, innovation, skills and wellbeing. Find out more about Grow Yorkshire on our strategy page.
Grow Yorkshire has secured funding from Shared Prosperity Fund for a number of projects to support farmers and farm businesses.
Farm decarbonisation
In 2023 we consulted farmers in our region through our Farm Energy Audit. Following the audit, we’re now developing a programme to deliver decarbonisation and financial benefit to farmers.
This will include motivating farmers in methods of reducing “whole farm” Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. We’ll also identify decarbonisation opportunities which are of financial benefit to farmers. These aims will unlock substantial GHG reductions across York and North Yorkshire’s agriculture sector.
Bio-fibre development
Building on the work of the existing Hemp Special Interest Group (SIG), and its established stakeholder networks, we are creating Bio-Fibre Special Interest Group (BF SIG).
This new project will support the development of the natural fibres supply chain in our region. The group will have a specific focus on the production, processing, and market developments of these fibres, for the construction, bio-composites, textile, and bioenergy sectors.
Rural communications
Grow Yorkshire aims to improve engagement with the rural community and especially farm businesses. Our aim is to achieve this by the creation of a dedicated DAB radio station with content specifically tailored to the region’s food, farming and rural businesses.
Precision agriculture
We are creating a Precision Agriculture Special Interest Group (PA SIG) to inform and apply the latest technology at farm level.
To achieve this we will work with researchers and technology developers to create a forum through which collaborative innovation can occur. The Precision Agriculture SIG’s key objectives are to provide a forum for collaboration, innovation and enterprise for the benefit of precision agriculture and regenerative farming in our region.
