Agri-tech
Agri-tech is the future of sustainable food production – if we are to feed a global population approaching 10billion by 2050, and improve the UK’s own food security.
The York and North Yorkshire region is home to a large cluster of food and drink production businesses, as well as producing 20% of the UK’s agri-food from the region’s farming and horticulture sectors.
Key information
Our region has an established network of supportive research and development. We boast leading land-based colleges offering apprenticeship training, up-stream and down-stream industries, and a wide range of site opportunities for Agri-tech businesses looking to establish themselves with a central UK base.
The York & North Yorkshire region has been recognised officially as a “High Potential Opportunity” by the UK Government Department of Business & Trade for Controlled Environment Agriculture and Horticulture (CEA). This means the region is the prime place to site your CEA business – from building and supplying goods and equipment to the sector, to siting vertical farms and glasshouses. We have a number of sites with different energy supply options, access to major UK logistic centres, motorway networks and two of the UK’s largest freeports, enabling onward market supply.
