Adult Skills Fund update

Monday 14 October 2024

The Grand, Station Rise, York, YO1 6GD

Arrive from 8.30am for a 9am start, the event closes at 12.15pm

There is less than a year to go before a devolved Adult Skills Fund becomes operational in York and North Yorkshire.

The region’s Adult Skills Fund, previously known as the Adult Education Budget, supports the delivery of education and training to people aged 19 and over and is worth around £10.8 million per year.

Skills leads from York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority (YNYCA), which will be taking responsibility of the fund, will be hosting their latest update session. Join the team to hear more about developments, ask questions and network.

The event will include:

Launch of the Adult Skills Fund Strategic Skills Plan
This plan seeks to deliver priorities which include: widening access and participation; embedding basic and transferable skills; unlocking progression pathways and underutilised talent to provide pathways to higher skills and better paid jobs and developing flexible provision.

Introduction to the Commissioning and Procurement Plan and timescales
Practical information to help providers plan for future Adult Skills Fund delivery from August 2025.

Launch of revised York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority Skills Strategy
An opportunity to hear more about our latest Skills Strategy, which has four overarching skills ambitions – an integrated, flexible and responsive skills system; accessible careers support for all ages; thriving businesses and empowered communities.

Collaboration and capacity building
Two further priorities of the Adult Skills Fund Strategic Skills Plan are to enable effective collaboration between businesses, communities, providers and the wider skills system, and build capacity and capability to develop and deliver high quality skills provision. The event will explore these themes further, with an opportunity for networking and workshops:

  • Procurement Hints and Tips (delivered by the YNYCA procurement team) – 45 minutes.
  • Ofsted & ASF – aligning curriculum & quality (delivered by Rachel Angus, Senior HMI at Ofsted) – 45 minutes (Please note, this workshop was limited to 30 spaces, and is now full).

The event is free and aimed at anyone with an interest in adult skills in York and North Yorkshire. Tea / coffee / water will be available.
