The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority (YNYCA) is celebrating the success of the York RLFC Foundation’s On The Same Team programme, which has delivered powerful messages of inclusion, respect and belonging to young people across the region.

Supported by £19,746 from the North Yorkshire Community Fund the project is delivered by the York RLFC Foundation in partnership with Community Integrated Care, and has reached more than 6,000 young people across 24 schools and community settings in York and North Yorkshire.

On The Same Team is designed to start meaningful conversations with children and young people about respect, kindness and understanding. Through workshops and practical activities, those taking part have explored how words and actions can affect others, and how they can work together to create inclusive and happy environments.

Adam Prentis, York RLFC Foundation

“The On the Same Team programme has been great for us, and I am a firm believer in its ability to deliver on its key values. I would like to express my sincere thanks towards the North Yorkshire Community Fund for the funding it has provided to help us achieve our goals of promoting inclusivity and tolerance through sport.”

The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority will continue to support programmes that help young people feel included, empowered and able to thrive. The impact of this project demonstrates how sport can have a positive impact beyond the pitch, shaping positive attitudes and promoting social cohesion across our region.

The Community Fund has recently been more than doubled, thanks to an investment from Mayor David Skaith’s Movement, Activity and Sport Fund, which allowed additional support for projects deigned to reduce anti-social behaviour and crime through early intervention.
