David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire joined with voices across the region to recognise the achievements of those recognised in the New Year Honours List.
Leaders across business, health, voluntary and community sector, sports, academia, faith and the arts were listed in the 2025 list, published 30th December.
David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, said: “The New Year Honours List is an opportunity to celebrate the community spirit in our country.
“I’m so proud that 20 people in York and North Yorkshire have been recognised for their contributions to our region. Whether in business, rail, community work, sports, re-offending, or caring, these honours are well deserved and show the extent of the commitment to making York and North Yorkshire a better place for everyone who lives and works here.”
Joining Mayor Skaith, Jennifer Wood, Chair of the York and North Yorkshire Business Board, recognised the region’s business leaders who made the list, including David Dickson from York, who was awarded an OBE for services to business and charitable causes.
“Our region’s business community is special because it is largely built upon the hard work and success of small and family-owned businesses, run by passionate and talented individuals who are equally committed to their local communities, as they are to business success.
“Huge congratulations to all those recognised, in particular to David Dickson, who has dedicated much of his career to supporting small businesses who are at the heart of their communities.”
As a member of the York and North Yorkshire Business Board, David Dickson said: “It is an incredible honour to be recognised in the New Years Honours list, and wonderful to see others from the region be recognised too.
“It is a privilege to be able to support and represent all of the businesses and charitable organisations that I come into contact with. They all do incredible work that makes an important difference in our communities.”
