Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, David Skaith is investing £1.9m of UKSPF funds to help decarbonise businesses in the region.
Mayor David Skaith said, “We need to be proactive with our decarbonisation efforts, but this can be an expensive ask. That’s why I’m pleased to announce a fund of £1.9 million for businesses across the region, helping them improve their energy efficiency and decrease emissions.”
He continued, “The Business Sustainability Programme is inspired by the brilliant work of North Yorkshire Council under the previous round of SPF funding. However, by being managed by the Combined Authority, businesses and farms from across the region are now able to benefit.
“Eligible projects will contribute to our region’s ambition to become Net Zero by 2034, a goal that puts us ahead of all other areas in the country. We all need to do our bit, and this money will help businesses across York and North Yorkshire take that step.”
Cllr Greg White, North Yorkshire Council executive member for managing our environment, said, “We are delighted to work with the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority and City of York in co-designing and delivering the new Business Sustainability Programme, which will see further investment to make North Yorkshire and York more sustainable.
“We have seen some fantastic examples of businesses across the county improve their energy efficiency and reduce their emissions, and drawing on last year’s award winning collaborative success, we look forward to leading on the management of this valuable programme.”
Cllr Pete Kilbane, Executive Member for Economy and Culture at City of York Council, said, “I’ve seen first-hand how committed York’s businesses are to becoming more sustainable and lessening their impact on our environment, and I’m delighted to hear that this fund will provide a much-needed boost to help our business community accelerate our drive towards being a net zero carbon city.”
Sue Jefferson, Chair of the Local Partnership Group, said, “Having overseen the recent successful SPF sustainability grants with North Yorkshire Council, there was clearly strong demand, and the inspiring projects demonstrated people in our region are highly engaged in tackling climate change and for good economic reasons. I’m delighted to see this programme be made available to the whole region and all business sectors.”
To maximise the delivery timeframe for what are often complex projects requiring external works, grant awards will be made on a rolling basis to projects approved at monthly decision panels.
