York & North Yorkshire Community Fund doubled as part of Mayoral investment

  • £400,000 has been awarded to the regions Community Fund from the Mayor David Skaith’s Moving Forward programme which supports community projects designed to keep people healthy and thriving.

The Community Fund enables local groups and organisations to apply for grants between £500 and £30,000, for new or innovative projects that support local communities within North Yorkshire or City of York to feel safe and be safe.

The additional funding will be available until the end of 2026 (funding dependent) for specific projects that provide early intervention and prevention in anti-social behaviour and crime:

  • Positive, preventative, diversionary and early intervention movement, activity and sport projects for young people at risk of or involved in crime and anti-social behaviour.
  • Strengthen partnerships to create safer recreation spaces.
  • Foster inclusivity and reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime or anti-social behaviour by bringing diverse groups together through movement, activity and sport that enhance feelings of safety.
  • Pilot projects to test and measure a concept will be considered.

Last year the Community Fund awarded more than £386,000 to 37 projects.

Jo Coles, York and North Yorkshire Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime said:

“Mayor David Skaith and I are committed to making York and North Yorkshire a safe place for all.

“Our starting point in much of our work was to increase the investment we’re making in early intervention and prevention projects. So it’s fantastic news that our Community Fund has now been doubled in size, enabling us to support many more projects across our region.

“If a group or project you’re involved in wants to do more to support young people, wants to improve or create safe community spaces or has an idea of something they want to try out, this funding is for you.

“Please apply now for up to £30,000 from this year’s fund.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what else we can do across our region, to make our communities safer.”
