Violence Against Women and Girls

The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority is committed to tackling violence against women and girls.

A wide range of local services are available to ensure that distinct and gender-specific support is available for women & girls who need it, such as those who are victims or at risk of exploitation, violence, and crime.

Many of these services are also available to men and boys.

Some of these services are available across York and North Yorkshire, others are targeted in specific areas.

Free and confidential support is available for victims of Violence Against Women and Girls across York and North Yorkshire.

If you have been a victim of crime you do not have to have made a report to the police to access these services.

 

Services include:

Support for children and adults and young people affected by abuse

Specialist services for anyone affected by rape or sexual assault

Counselling and emotional wellbeing support

A victim’s helpline offering advice and referrals

Start Safe, Stay Safe App 

Start Safe, Stay Safe offers a straightforward, and confidential way for members of the public to report street, town and city centre incidents. It also enables authorities to quickly identify patterns of abuse and criminal behaviour and help them to respond more effectively

Supporting Victims

Supporting Victims helps people living in North Yorkshire to cope after crime, and get their lives back to normal as soon as possible.

Supporting Victims provides support for anyone affected by crime. That includes people who have been a victim of crime themselves, people who have suffered a bereavement as a result of crime, people who are the family spokesperson for a victim, the parents or guardians of victims under 18, and members of staff where their business has been subject to crime.

Just a Kiss

Just a Kiss is a short film following the story of a young university fresher who, having met a man on a night out, becomes the victim of stalking.

Supporting by the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, and produced by a local production company alongside key partners, the film chronicles how stalking can quickly escalate and impact the lives of victims and displays the perspective of friends and family.

The film is aimed at 16-24 year-olds has been made to raise awareness of stalking and harassment.
