The Mayor's Local Transport Plan
The Mayor's Local Transport Plan will set out a long-term vision for improving transport across York and North Yorkshire, helping people travel more easily, safely and sustainably.
The plan will guide future investment and priorities across the region and will be supported by a delivery plan that sets out how improvements will be made to all forms of transport, including walking, wheeling, cycling, buses, rail and roads.
Progress so far
In March 2025, the Combined Authority approved the Strategic Transport Framework, which sets out the ambitions and principles that will guide the Mayor's Local Transport Plan.

Since then, we have been working with City of York Council, North Yorkshire Council and other stakeholders across the region to develop a draft Mayor's Local Transport Plan. The new plan will build on the existing transport strategies and other plans already in place across York and North Yorkshire, including the Local Growth Plan and draft Strategy for a Sustainable Future.

A 12-week public consultation on the draft Mayor's Local Transport Plan will begin in August 2026.
We want to hear from residents, businesses, community groups and transport users from across the region. Your feedback will help shape the final plan and future transport investment priorities.
Your feedback will also help us to develop more detailed strategies to support the Mayor’s Local Transport Plan, for example around buses, roads and active travel.
There will be a variety of ways to find out more and to share your views, including an online questionnaire, webinars, and drop-in events across the region. More details will be available when the consultation opens.
