Last month, the Youth Commission joined up with the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority to attend the Great Yorkshire Show. It was a fantastic day, speaking to young people from all across the county to better understand their views and experiences.
The Youth Commission’s focus for the day was our Gender Violence priority, including promoting our recently launched Gender Violence survey.
Youth Commission member Hana spoke to lots of other young people to find out what they knew about gender violence, what ideas they had to improve it and to promote important support options.
Reflecting on the day, Hana said:
“Taking part in the Great Yorkshire Show this year as a member of the York & North Yorkshire Youth Commission was an amazing opportunity. We got some really fantastic feedback from the public. We prioritised one of our main topics, Gender Violence.
It was really great talking to the York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority and the amazing North Yorkshire Police & North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service; thank you to everyone who made the day so great!”
The Great Yorkshire Show wrapped up the Youth Commission’s 2026 Big Conversation. Having spoken to over 1500 young people across North and North Yorkshire, we will now prepare to share our findings and recommendations with the Deputy Mayor for Police, Fire and Crime; North Yorkshire Police; North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and lots of other important partners.
