In preparation for the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children’s Partnerships ‘Designated Safeguarding Lead Conference’ later in the year, Youth Commission members have spent the day discussing and planning what key messages young people want the adults protecting them to understand.
Members designed information posters and interactive activities on topics including social media, AI and building trusting relationships with young people.
Some of members' key messages for safeguarding professionals included:
“ Be visible around school and have an open door.”
“Being able to hear young people’s voices and struggles and supporting young people away from harm online.”
“Work with us as students and allow for co-production.”
“Please continue to educate students on social media and AI even if it becomes banned, because we will still be using it.”
The Youth Commission will attend the DSL Conference to make sure young people’s voices and opinions are included in key safeguarding conversations.
