There is one week remaining to get applications in for the latest round of Community Fund projects in York and North Yorkshire.
The Community Fund, which invests in a wide range of local projects and interventions aimed at enhancing community safety through prevention and early intervention, will see its latest round of funding come to an end on Thursday 23 April.
Funding is available to applicants from £500 up to £30,000. This is aimed at specific projects that support communities within North Yorkshire to “Be Safe and Feel Safe”.
Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire and Crime Jo Coles said:
“The Mayor's Community Fund provides valuable support for groups and organisations across the region supporting 47 projects over the last two years.
“Last year, David Skaith, the Mayor, doubled the size of this pot, delivering more early intervention and prevention and creating more safe community spaces.
“The fund is open for applications regularly over the year with the next deadline on 23 April.
“If you have a project that will help to keep our communities safe and requires support, we would love to hear from you.”
The current window for Community Fund applications closes on Thursday 23 April.
Projects that have recently benefited from funding includes the Pathfinders U17 driving course. The course provides a full week of off-road classes to young people aged 15-17, allowing them to learn basic driving skills before driving on public roads.
Pathfinders recently visited Rufforth Airfield in York where 36 young people and their parents were given the opportunity to practice parking, road manoeuvres, emergency avoidance and overtaking.
Ian Goring, Yorkshire Coordinator at Pathfinders U17 said:
"We have been delighted by how many young people have signed up to attend our events. The Community Fund is helping to support the next generation of drivers, providing them with skills and experience before they get on the road, keeping themselves and their loved ones safe."
Last year, Tadcaster Barn, a community hub and venue, received £7,500 from the Community Fund to support activities for young people, including a photography project that inspired a local exhibition.
