Residents, businesses and organisations are being invited to share their views as a public consultation launches on the future of police and fire service buildings in Malton.
David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, is responsible for making decisions about the buildings used by North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Currently in Malton, there are separate Police and Fire Stations. Both stations are old and no longer fit for purpose. They fail to meet the needs of the emergency services, their staff, or the surrounding community.
The Mayor is seeking the public’s views on whether to move forward with specialist survey work to explore the potential for a new, joint Police and Fire station in Malton.
At this stage, no decisions have been made - the consultation is focused solely on whether this survey work should be undertaken.
Responses to the consultation will be carefully considered alongside all other available evidence before any final decision is made.
The Mayor is encouraging a wide range of people to take part, including:
- Members of the public, who live or work in York and North Yorkshire
- Local businesses and community organisations
- Employees of North Yorkshire Police and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service
Views are welcome from anyone who lives or works in Malton, as well as those from across York and North Yorkshire more widely.
Have your say
The consultation is open now. To take part, please complete the online survey by 1 July 2026.
The survey should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.
Full information about the survey can be found on the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority website: https://yorknorthyorks-ca.gov.uk/malton-fire-station-consultation/
Jo Coles, Deputy Mayor for Police, Fire and Crime said:
As Deputy Mayor for Police, Fire and Crime, it is my job to work with the emergency services to ensure our police officers and staff and fire fighters have what they need to do their job effectively and that includes working from buildings that are fit for purpose.
That’s not the case currently in Malton and is why David Skaith, the Mayor and I are seeking the public’s views on whether to move forward with survey work on a potential new joint Police and Fire station for the town.
Listening to residents and local businesses is key to being able to deliver effective local services, so we welcome responses on this from everyone who lives or works in York and North Yorkshire.”
