York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority has been awarded funding from the Department for Transport to explore how to deliver better rural and coastal bus services, and we want to hear from our communities.

We are having discussions with a wide range of local organisations to understand their experiences of bus travel in their areas. We will also meet with groups and individuals whose voices often go unheard.

Five pilot areas are included in the study:

  • York to Selby Corridor
  • Coastal Communities and Vale of Pickering
  • North York Moors
  • Yorkshire Dales
  • Richmond, Ripon and Northallerton

We want to make sure that local organisations and community representatives can share their views, so we can understand what works and what doesn’t work about bus services in each of the pilot areas.

We want you to tell us:

  • The journeys that can be made by bus and those which are just not possible
  • The times of day people can travel by bus – and when it is difficult or impossible
  • Whether some destinations, locations or communities are better served by bus than others
  • What is good and not so good about buses in the area?
  • How well buses and trains connect.

We also want to know:

  • What changes to bus services you would like to happen sooner rather than later
  • What longer-term changes to bus services you’d like to see

Please take part in our questionnaire by 11.59pm on Sunday 19 July 2026.  This will help us to build a detailed picture of the challenges in each area and possible ways to improve services.

We want to hear from communities interested in taking part and encourage sharing the questionnaire with other groups.

The questionnaire will be managed by ITP on behalf of York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority. By participating, you are indicating that you understand that the Combined Authority will be using ITP as a data processor to collect and process the personal data shared in this exercise. The Combined Authority will act in accordance with its privacy policy. For more information on how your data is stored and processed, see our privacy notice.
